Many fans call them the "Souths" or the "Bunnies." They are based in a place called Maroubra. The team represents the working-class suburbs of inner-south Sydney. They are one of the most successful teams in the history of the sport. The club has won twenty-one first grade premierships, which are major championship titles.

People love the team because it has a very long and proud history.

To understand how the club works, you can look at its many different parts. The team trains and runs its business at facilities in Maroubra. When they play big games, they often go to Stadium Australia in Sydney Olympic Park.

The players work hard to win matches in the National Rugby League, or NRL. Some players become very famous for their skill on the field. For example, Clive Churchill was known as the "Little Master" because he was a brilliant player.

He is still remembered as one of the greatest players in Australia.

The club has a very long story that began over a hundred years ago. It was formed during a meeting on 17 January 1908 at Redfern Town Hall. Three men, J. J. Giltinan, Victor Trumper, and Henry Hoyle, gathered there with many supporters. Arthur Hennessy became the first captain and coach of the team.

The team played its very first match on 20 April 1908. They beat North Sydney with a score of 11 to 7. This made them one of the founding members of the new league.

South Sydney has seen many amazing moments and some very hard times. In 1925, the team was so good that they went twelve games without losing. This led people to call them the "Pride of the League."

They also had a "miracle" season in 1955 when they won eleven straight matches. However, the club faced big money problems in the 1970s. They were even excluded from the main competition at the end of 1999. Fans had to fight hard in court to help the team return in 2002.

Today, the Rabbitohs are a major part of Australian sporting culture. In 2006, the famous actor Russell Crowe became a part-owner of the club.

The team celebrated its 100th year in 2008. That same year, they were named a "Community Icon" by the National Trust. In 2014, they won their first big championship in forty-three years. During that final, player Sam Burgess played the whole game with a fractured cheekbone.
