It is called the Slavonic Dances. He wrote 16 pieces in total. He made them in two groups. The first group is Op. 46. The second group is Op. 72.

Dvořák was not a famous composer at first. He won a prize three times. A man named Johannes Brahms helped him. Brahms told a publisher about Dvořák. The publisher asked him to write dance music.

Dvořák used rhythms from his home. Most of these rhythms come from Bohemia. He did not use old folk songs. He wrote his own melodies instead. He wanted them to feel like folk dances.

Many instruments play these dances. You can hear flutes and oboes. There are also horns and trumpets. You might hear drums or a triangle. Some pieces use a glockenspiel. This is a small instrument with metal bars.

Some dances use names like polka or mazurka. The music can be very lively. A full show takes about 40 minutes. These songs helped Dvořák become known all over the world.
