Many people think it sounds happy rather than serious. It uses many parts of an orchestra. The brass section plays the main tune at first. Later, the string section takes a turn. One part of the song uses an old folk song. It is called Alter Tanz aus Wien. This melody was originally in a different time. Strauss changed the beat to fit the march. When people hear the chorus, they often clap. They might even stomp their feet. This happens at big classical music shows. The Vienna Philharmonic plays it every year. They play it at the end of their New Year's Concert. It is a very joyful way to end the show. The music is used in many movies and sports. It is even used by armies in Chile and Paraguay.
