A skill is an ability to do something well. You can learn a skill with practice. Some people are also born with a natural talent.

Skills can be for one job or many jobs. We call one type "domain-specific." This means the skill is for a certain task. An example is using a sand blaster. Other skills are "domain-general." These help in many areas. Examples include teamwork and managing your time.

Some people talk about hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills are for specific tasks. They are easy to measure and test. Soft skills are about your personality. These include how you talk to others. People skills help you build trust and respect.

How do we get better? One idea is the "10,000 hour rule." It says you need much practice to be the best. Other experts say you should try many different things first. This helps you find what fits you best. A person with many different skills is called a polymath. You can learn by doing things. This is a great way to build new skills for life.
