Discipline

society Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Discipline is a way to learn self-control. It means following rules and working hard. This helps you reach your goals. Some people think discipline is the same as punishment. But they are different. Punishment tries to cause pain. Discipline is meant to teach.

Self-discipline is when you control your own actions. It helps you stay focused on a task. You might give up a small pleasure now to get a big reward later. This is called delayed gratification. It takes effort and practice to do this. You must take small steps every day to build strong habits.

A habit is something you do without thinking. Habits have three parts. First is a trigger. This starts the action. Next is the behavior. This is the action you take. Last is the reward. This is the good feeling you get. It can take about two months to form a new habit.

You can build discipline by looking at yourself. Try to find out why you struggle. You can also celebrate your small wins. This helps you keep going when things get hard.
