Sin Yunbok was a famous painter from Korea. Many people know him by his art name, Hyewon. He lived during the Joseon period from 1758 to 1813. Sin is loved for his genre paintings. These are pictures that show daily life. He captured how people lived and worked. His art helps us see the past clearly.

Sin had a special way of painting. He used bright colors and very delicate strokes. Most painters of his time left empty space on their paper. Sin did not do this. He liked to fill his whole canvas with details. He also painted landscapes and animals. His ink landscapes used clear, light strokes. This style was similar to the artist Yun Chehong.

Art was a family job for Sin. His father was a royal court painter named Hanpyeong. His grandfather was also a painter for the court. Hanpyeong even helped paint portraits of kings Yeongjo and Jeongjo. Sin worked at the Tohwasŏ, which was a royal painting institute. He held the official rank of cheomjeoljesa there. Some people think he left many paintings because they were so popular.

Sin's paintings show us many different scenes. One famous work is the Portrait of a Beauty. It shows the traditional hanbok clothes of the Joseon era. Another piece is called Scene of Dano. It shows people at a spring festival. This painting shows women in a stream and a woman on a swing. Sin also painted scenes of shamanism and town life. These works show us the costumes of his time.

Sin is remembered as one of the "Three Wons." This group includes Kim Hongdo and Chang Sŭngŏp. They are all great painters from the Joseon period. Sin's art book, the Hyewon Pungsokhwacheop, is very important. It contains 30 of his paintings. South Korea named it the 135th National Treasure in 1970. His life is still a mystery to many. He even appears in modern books and TV shows.
