These cats come from Thailand, which was once called Siam. They are known for a very special look called a colorpoint pattern. This pattern means they have dark colors on their ears, face, paws, and tail.

They also have bright, blue, almond-shaped eyes. Most Siamese cats have a long, slender, and muscular body. They are very smart and love to be around people. Many people call them extroverts because they are so social.

Their unique colors happen because of a special way their bodies work.

A tiny part of their body makes color using a special tool called an enzyme. This enzyme is heat-sensitive, which means it only works in cool places. It does not work well when the body is warm. However, it becomes active when the skin is cooler, like below 33 degrees Celsius. This happens on the ears, paws, and face because airflow keeps those parts cool. Because of this, Siamese kittens are born cream or white. They grow their dark points during their first few months of life.

History tells us these cats have been around for a very long time.

Ancient manuscripts called the Tamra Maew describe them. These poems come from the Ayutthaya Kingdom, which lasted from 1351 to 1767. The poems say these cats are as rare as gold. A legend says a King of Burma once collected these cats as treasures. In the West, the first documented Siamese reached the United States in 1878. This cat was named "Siam" and was sent from Bangkok. Later, in 1884, a pair named Pho and Mia were brought to Britain.

Over time, the look of the breed began to change.

In the 1950s, breeders started choosing cats with a more slender and angular look. They bred cats to have very long, thin tails and large, wide-set ears. This created the modern-style Siamese we see today. By the mid-1980s, the older, rounder cats were seen as a different type. These traditional cats are now called the Thai breed.

Both the modern Siamese and the Thai cat come from the same ancestors. They both belong to the original Wichianmat landrace from Thailand.

Siamese cats have helped create many other famous cat breeds. By crossbreeding them, people developed the Oriental and the Colourpoint Shorthair.

When they were bred with Persians, they made the long-haired Himalayan. The long-haired version is also known as the Balinese. They also helped create breeds like the Cornish Rex and the Sphynx. Even though they look different, many of these cats share Siamese history. Today, Siamese cats remain very popular in cat shows around the world. They continue to be loved for their beauty and their friendly nature.
