Service design

technology Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Service design is a way to plan how things work. It helps make services better for users. Designers look at people, tools, and communication. They want to make sure a service is easy to use. They also want it to work well for the people providing it.

There are five main ideas in service design. First is being human-centered. This means thinking about the needs of every person involved. Second is being co-creative. This means people from different backgrounds work together. A service only truly exists when people use it.

Third is sequencing. This means planning steps in a clear order. For example, a website should show shipping info early. This helps you know if you can buy an item. Fourth is evidencing. This makes invisible work easy to see. A restaurant might show how it grows organic food.

Finally, there is being holistic. This means looking at the whole environment. Designers look at every touchpoint, or moment of contact. They also use service blueprints. These are maps that show every step and interaction in a service.
