An information system is a set of parts that work together.

These systems collect, store, and share facts. They help people make good choices.

There are six main parts to these systems. First is hardware. This is the machinery, like a computer or a printer. Second is software. These are the programs that tell the hardware what to do. Third is data. Data are just facts. When people use data to learn something, it becomes information.

Fourth is procedures. These are the rules for how to use the system. Fifth is people. People are very important for a system to work well. They use the tools and fix them if they break. Sixth is the internet. This helps different computers talk to each other.

Some systems are built like a pyramid. Small systems sit at the bottom. Big systems sit at the top. These systems help with many jobs. Some help with money. Others help with teaching or searching for things. They help people do tasks that are too hard for the human brain alone.
