It sits near the border of Kenya. The name Serengeti may mean "endless plains." This is because the land is very big and open.

The park has many different parts. The south has wide grasslands. These plains have large rocks called koppies. The west has many trees and two rivers.

The north has many hills and woods. Volcanoes helped shape this land long ago. They left ash in the soil. This ash helps plants grow.

Many animals live in the park. It has the largest lion group in Africa.

You can also see elephants, zebras, and giraffes. One of the most famous events is the Great Migration. Over 1.5 million wildebeest move across the land. They travel with many zebras and gazelles. The animals must cross rivers to find food. Some crocodiles wait in the water to catch them. This trip is very long and hard for the animals.
