The weather in Serang is very wet and warm. It has a tropical rainforest climate. This means there is no dry season at all. It rains quite often throughout the entire year. You will notice the rain is even heavier from December to March. This constant rain helps keep the land green and lush.

Serang has a very long and interesting history. Many people moved there in early 1527. These people came to build the Banten Sultanate. Because of this, many residents speak Javanese today. Most people in the province speak Sundanese instead. This mix of people makes the local culture very special.

Many people live in this growing city. In 2010, there were 576,961 people. By 2020, the population grew to 692,101. The official estimate for mid-2023 was 735,651 people. Most people there follow the religion of Islam. People call Serang the "city of pious people." It has two very large mosques for worshippers. The Al-Bantani Grand Mosque can hold 10,000 people.

Traveling to and from Serang is quite easy. A train station serves the city. A big toll road called the Tangerang–Merak Toll Road also passes through. This road is part of a much longer path called the Trans-Java toll road. If you need to fly, the nearest airport is in Jakarta. Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is only about 29 km away. Some people even think Serang is part of the Greater Jakarta area.
