Seongnam is a major city in South Korea. It sits in the Gyeonggi Province. The city is the tenth largest in the whole country. It is also the fourth largest city in its province. About one million people live in this busy place.

It is very close to the capital city, Seoul. Today, Seongnam is part of the large Seoul metropolitan network. This means it feels very connected to the big city nearby.

The city was built with a special plan. During the 1970s and 1980s, leaders wanted to grow the nation. They built Seongnam to hold many big factories. These factories made things like electronics and textiles.

The city also has a great network of roads. These paths connect Seongnam to Seoul and Gwangju. One important area is Pangyo Techno Valley. It is a top place for many modern businesses. Many large companies moved their offices here from downtown Seoul.

Seongnam has a very interesting history of growing. It has served as a test for how to plan cities. In 1991, a new town called Bundang was started. It sits in the southern half of the city.

Since then, the city has changed a lot. Pangyo has become a core area for the city. It is now even more important than the old downtown areas. The old downtown areas were Jungwon and Sujeong.

There is much to see and do in Seongnam. The city has three main districts to explore. These are Bundang, Jungwon, and Sujeong.

People who love art can visit the Seongnam Arts Center. It has three different theaters for shows. You can also find musical fountains and outdoor parks there. Sports fans can watch Seongnam FC play football. This professional club competes in the K League 2. The city also has many places for learning. There is one provincial library and 18 municipal libraries.

Education is a big part of life here. Many students go to schools with very high standards. You can find Gachon University and Dong Seoul University here.

There is also the Korea International School in Pangyo. The city is very well connected by trains and buses. You can ride the Suin–Bundang Line or the Shinbundang Line. Many buses also travel to the Gangnam District in Seoul. This makes it easy for people to move around the region.
