The Sefirot are ten special attributes used in Kabbalah.

Kabbalah is a part of Jewish mysticism. These ten parts are not ten different gods. Instead, they act as channels for one God. They show how the divine will reaches our world. Many people think of them as ways to understand the creator. They help explain how the physical world and spiritual worlds connect. This system helps people study both the divine and the human soul.

These attributes flow from a state called the Ein Sof. This name means "without end" or "infinity." The Ein Sof is the formless state of the universe. It represents the divine before the world became known to us. The Sefirot come from the Ein Sof like a flame. The first part is called Keter, which means "Crown." Keter is very close to the infinite and hard to understand. The last part is Malkuth, or "Kingdom." Malkuth is the closest part to our physical world.

Different thinkers have explained the Sefirot in various ways. The ancient Sefer Yetzirah mentions ten attributes. It lists them as forward, backward, right, left, up, down, light, darkness, good, and evil. Later, the Zohar provided the names we use today. In the 16th century, Moses ben Jacob Cordovero organized them into a system. He listed them from the highest to the lowest. Isaac Luria had a different view. He saw them as active forces in a constant dialogue. He called these interacting forces "partzufim," or "faces."

The Sefirot cover many different ideas. The first part, Keter, is a superconscious level. The next three parts are for the intellect. These are Chokmah, Binah, and Da'at. The remaining seven parts describe emotions. For example, Chesed means "Kindness" and Gevurah means "Discipline." Tiferet means "Glory" while Netzach means "Victory." Hod means "Splendour" and Yesod means "Foundation." Finally, Malkuth is the vessel for action. These names help people map out how the divine works.

Many people use the Sefirot to understand themselves. Kabbalah teaches that the human soul mirrors the divine. This is a way to study the inner life of a person. Some thinkers use the metaphor of light to explain this. One sun can create many different rays of light. The sun is one, but the rays are many. This helps explain how one God can have many attributes. It also helps people connect their own feelings to the spiritual world.
