The Sea Peoples were a group of different tribes from the ancient world. They lived around the Mediterranean Sea long ago. Many people think they were a single group, but they were actually many different tribes. Some of these groups may have come from islands like Crete or Cyprus. Others might have come from places like Sicily, Sardinia, or Italy.

Historians use the name "Sea Peoples" to describe them in books today. This name helps us talk about the many groups that moved across the water together.

These people did not just move as soldiers in a war. They moved as huge groups of people looking for new homes. This movement happened during a time called the Late Bronze Age. Around 1200 BC, many old kingdoms began to fall apart. Some scholars used to think the Sea Peoples caused these kingdoms to fail. Now, many experts believe the Sea Peoples were part of bigger changes already happening.

Their movements were a sign that the old way of life was changing.

We know about them because of old carvings in Egypt. These carvings tell stories of battles fought by Egyptian leaders. One famous leader was Ramesses II, who ruled in the 13th century BC. He fought a group called the Sherden near the Nile Delta. After the battle, the Pharaoh even made some Sherden into Egyptian soldiers.

They even helped him plan battles against other enemies. This shows that these groups were part of many different lives.

Another leader named Merneptah also fought these groups. He ruled Egypt from about 1213 BC to 1203 BC. His records say he fought a large group of people in the western delta. Some of these people were called the Shekelesh. The Egyptian records give us many names like the Peleset, Denyen, and Tjekker.

These names come from many different ancient Egyptian sources. They help us see how many different tribes were moving at once.

Learning about the Sea Peoples helps us understand how the world changed. Their journeys linked many different lands across the sea. When they moved, they brought new things to the places they reached. We can still see their influence in old pottery and tools today.
