It tells the story for movies, TV, and video games. Screenwriters can make new stories. They can also adapt books into scripts.

A script has two main parts. The first part is the action. It describes what we see and hear. This includes settings and character movements. The second part is the dialogue. These are the words characters speak.

Scripts use a special look. Most use a font called Courier. One page is often about one minute of film. This helps the crew plan the work. Writers also use slug lines. These tell us if a scene is inside or outside. They also name the place and the time of day.

In the past, film scripts were very short. Some were only one sentence! As films grew, scripts became more detailed. This helped studios plan their budgets. Today, many writers use special computer programs. These programs help them follow the rules of the studio format. This makes the script easy for everyone to read.
