A sitcom is a funny show on radio or TV. The name is short for situation comedy. These shows use a set of same characters. These characters live in one place, like a home or a job. They face many silly or funny situations together.

Because the characters stay the same, we learn about them over time. We feel like we know their lives and friends. Some shows use real people in a studio. They might use a laugh track, which is recorded laughter. Other shows use cartoons, called animated sitcoms. Examples are The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Sitcoms are popular all over the world. In Mexico, a show called El Chavo del Ocho was a huge hit. It had millions of viewers in many countries. In Canada, the show Schitt's Creek won many awards. It even won many Emmy Awards for its actors. In India, a show called Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has run for a long time. Sitcoms bring people together through laughter.
