Scots has many interesting words. Some words come from French or Dutch. Other words come from Gaelic. For example, the word "loch" means a lake.

The word "lum" means a chimney.

History has changed how people use Scots. Long ago, it was used for many things. Later, many people used Standard English instead. Some thinkers even tried to stop its use. But writers like Robert Burns kept it alive. He used Scots to write beautiful poems.

Today, Scots is an official language in Scotland. It is a proud part of their culture.
