Scottish Gaelic is a special way of speaking.

It is a Celtic language from Scotland. Many people call it simply Gaelic. Long ago, it was the main language in much of Scotland. You can still see this in place names today. For example, many towns use the word "bal." This word means a home, farm, or town.

Over time, the number of speakers changed. In the past, English and Scots became more common. Some rules even required children to learn English in school. This made it harder to use Gaelic every day. However, people have worked hard to save the language. In 1767, the first New Testament was written in Gaelic. Later, many Gaelic Bibles were printed to help people read.

Today, Gaelic is an official language of Scotland. You can see it on signs for the police or banks.

It is also spoken in parts of Canada, like Nova Scotia. Even though fewer people speak it now, new groups are learning it. This helps keep the history of the Gaels alive.
