Swedish is a way of speaking.

More than 10 million people use it. Most live in Sweden. Many also live in Finland. It is a member of the North Germanic language family. This means it is related to Danish and Norwegian.

Long ago, people wrote Swedish using runes. Runes are special marks used as letters.

As time passed, the language changed. New words came from other places. Many words came from German. These words helped with trade and law. In the 1500s, a king named Gustav Vasa ordered a new Bible.

This book helped people spell words the same way. It used special letters like ä, å, and ö.

Today, Swedish is a modern language. People in different parts of Sweden may sound different. Some use local dialects. But most people use a standard way of writing. This helps everyone understand each other. It is a proud part of Swedish culture.
