It lived about 191 million years ago in England. Back then, Europe was a group of islands. This dinosaur was an herbivore, which means it ate plants.

It used a small, long head to bite low plants. It then used a large gut to digest them.

One of its most famous parts was its armor. Scelidosaurus had bony scutes embedded in its skin.

Scutes are hard plates, like those on a crocodile. These plates grew in long, straight rows. They covered the neck, back, and tail. Most scutes were oval shapes with a high ridge.

Scelidosaurus mostly walked on four legs. Its back legs were longer than its front legs. However, some tracks suggest it could walk on two legs too. It was about 4 metres long.

Scientists found many fossils in Dorset, England. These fossils are very well preserved. This helps us learn how this ancient animal lived.
