Sargodha has an interesting history that began over a hundred years ago. The British established it in 1903 as a canal-colony. At that time, it was spelled "Sargoda." The city faced a hard time with a plague outbreak in 1903 and 1904. It was a small town at first, but it grew quickly. The British Royal Air Force built an airport there because of its location. The name comes from two words: "Sar" meaning pond and "Godha" meaning Sadhu. This means the name means "Pond of Godha."

Today, Sargodha is a very important place for food. It is famous for growing citrus fruits like oranges. In fact, it is the largest kinnow-producing district in the world. Because of this, people call it the "California of Pakistan." Farmers also grow much wheat, cotton, rice, and vegetables.
