He was famous for his incredible technical skill and precise draftsmanship. His work featured striking, bizarre, and dreamlike images that challenged viewers. Dalí was not just a painter; he explored many creative fields. His repertoire included sculpture, film, animation, and photography. He also worked in fashion and the graphic arts.

Beyond visual art, he wrote fiction, poetry, essays, and autobiography. His work remains a major influence on pop art and contemporary artists like Jeff Koons.

Dalí's creative process involved a deep study of both old and new ideas. As a young student in Madrid, he spent every Sunday at the Prado Museum. He would sit with a pencil to analyze great historical masterpieces. This "monk-like" devotion helped him master classical painting techniques. Later, he integrated these skills with modern theories. He was heavily influenced by the psychologist Sigmund Freud. This led him to explore the subconscious and dream imagery. He also studied scientific developments to create his unique "nuclear mysticism" style.

His artistic journey moved through several distinct stages. Early in his career, he experimented with Impressionism and Renaissance styles. He then moved toward Cubism, which uses geometric shapes to represent objects. In 1921, his uncle provided him with books on these modern movements. By the late 1920s, he transitioned into Surrealism. This movement focused on the irrational and the world of dreams. One of his most iconic Surrealist works is *The Persistence of Memory*, completed in August 1931.

Later in life, he developed "nuclear mysticism," which blended classicism with science and religion.

Dalí's life began in Figueres, Catalonia, on May 11, 1904.

His father was a lawyer and an atheist. His mother, Felipa Domènech Ferrés, encouraged his artistic interests. However, his childhood was marked by significant loss. An older brother, also named Salvador, died in 1903. Dalí felt a deep connection to his deceased brother. He often mythologized this relationship in his art. He even painted works like *Portrait of My Dead Brother* in 1963. His mother's death from cancer in 1921 was also a major turning point.

As he grew, Dalí's social and professional circles expanded across Europe. In 1922, he moved to Madrid to study at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. There, he became part of the avant-garde group known as Ultra. He formed intense friendships with figures like the poet Federico García Lorca.

In 1926, he traveled to Paris and met Pablo Picasso. This meeting was significant because Dalí deeply revered Picasso's work. He also interacted with other major artists like Joan Miró and Yves Tanguy. These connections helped him find his place within the international Surrealist movement.

Dalí's career was marked by both massive success and intense controversy. He achieved great commercial success after moving to the United States in 1940. However, his public persona was often described as eccentric and ostentatious. His behavior sometimes drew more attention than his actual paintings. He also faced criticism regarding his political views and his support for the Francoist regime.

Some critics even questioned the authenticity of his later works. Despite these debates, his impact on popular culture remains undeniable. His strange imagery has become a recognizable part of modern art history.

Today, Dalí's legacy is preserved in major institutions around the world. Two primary museums are dedicated to his life and work. The Dalí Theatre-Museum is located in his hometown of Figueres, Spain.

There is also the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, in the United States. These museums house his paintings, sculptures, and other objects. They allow people to explore the complex themes he championed. His work continues to connect the worlds of science, religion, and the human subconscious. He remains a central figure in the study of 20th-century art.
