The weather in Salalah changes in a very special way. Most of the year, the climate is a hot desert type. But from June to September, the khareef season arrives. Khareef means "autumn" in Arabic. During these months, the dry, brown land turns bright green.

Salalah has a very long and interesting history. In the 13th century, the area was very wealthy. This was because of the famous incense trade. Later, the city was part of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. Sultan Qaboos bin Said was born in Salalah. He was a leader who ruled Oman for many years. He moved the capital to Muscat in 1970. People in Salalah always kept his palace ready for him. He even visited in 2010 for a huge parade. This parade had about 100,000 people watching.

The city is also a very important place for business. There is a huge port located just south of the city.
