Sakichi Toyoda was a famous inventor from Japan. He was born in 1867. His father was a farmer and a carpenter. Sakichi learned how to build things from his father. He loved to read books and study with friends.

Sakichi changed how cloth is made. He started a company in 1926. He made many machines for weaving cloth. His most famous machine was an automatic power loom. This machine used a smart idea called Jidoka. Jidoka means the machine stops itself if a problem happens. This helps make sure the cloth is good.

Sakichi also had a way to fix mistakes. He used the "5 Whys." When a problem occurs, you ask "why" five times. This helps you find the real source of the trouble. Then you can stop the problem from happening again.

His son, Kiichiro Toyoda, started a large car company. It is called Toyota. In 1973, Japan named Sakichi one of its great inventors. A fancy car called the Toyota Century was named for his 100th birthday.
