It sits on the western edge of Shikoku island. This land is part of the Ehime Prefecture. The peninsula juts out in a straight line. It follows a feature called the Japan Median Tectonic Line. It is quite a thin strip of land. In fact, it is the narrowest peninsula in Japan for its length. It acts like a wall between two different bodies of water. The Seto Inland Sea sits to the north. The Uwa Sea is found to the south.

Getting around this area can be quite a trip. The land is extremely mountainous in most places.

Long ago, it was hard to travel by car. This changed when people finished building national highway Route 197. Now, drivers can use this path to cross the land. You can also travel by water. Ferries run from Misaki Port at the very tip. These boats go to Saganoseki Port in Ōita. This gives people a way to move between islands.

Nature is a huge part of life here. The tip of the land is called Cape Sada. This spot is part of the Seto Inland Sea National Park. The lower part of the peninsula is also protected. It is part of the Uwa Sea National Park.
