Sacred things might be objects or places. They are often used for worship. This makes people feel deep respect or awe.

There is a small difference between sacred and holy. In some faiths, people use "sacred" for things like objects or places. They use "holy" for people or relationships. The word holy can also mean something is pure or whole.

Some things can be both, like a holy book.

Many different groups have special ways to make things sacred. In Judaism, priests may use washing or special clothes. In Hinduism, a ceremony called Kumbhabhishekam can renew a temple. This often happens every 12 years. In Buddhism, rituals can make images of the Buddha sacred. In Jainism, people hold a big ceremony for new idols in a temple.

Some people also see nature as sacred. Many Indian religions revere rivers, trees, and mountains. For example, the Ganges is a very sacred river in Hinduism. These beliefs help people care for the world around them.
