He is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. In India, many people call him the "God of Cricket" because of his immense skill. He represented the Indian national team for over 24 years. His career was marked by incredible statistics and leadership. He even served as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. This was a position in the upper house of India's Parliament. He held this role from 2012 to 2018 through presidential nomination.

Tendulkar's path to greatness began with intense training and discipline. As a young boy in Mumbai, he was interested in tennis. He even grew his hair long to emulate his hero, John McEnroe. However, his brother Ajit introduced him to cricket in 1984. Ajit helped him meet a coach named Ramakant Achrekar at Shivaji Park. To motivate him, Achrekar used a unique practice method. He placed a one-rupee coin on top of the stumps. If a bowler dismissed Tendulkar, the bowler kept the coin. If Tendulkar survived the session, he kept the coin. Tendulkar still treasures the thirteen coins he won during this time.

His early professional career showed his talent at a very young age. In 1988, at age 14, he was selected for the Bombay Ranji Trophy team. By 1988, he was also playing in the Kanga Cricket League. He made his debut for Bombay against Gujarat in December 1988. In that match, he scored 100 runs without being out. This made him the youngest Indian to score a century on debut in first-class cricket. He also scored centuries in his debuts for the Deodhar and Duleep Trophies. He is the only player to achieve a debut century in all three of these domestic tournaments.

Tendulkar's international career began with great physical and mental challenges. He made his Test match debut in November 1989 against Pakistan. He was only sixteen years and 205 days old at the time. During a series in Pakistan, he faced a very fast bowling attack. He was hit on the nose by a bouncer from bowler Waqar Younis. Despite the injury and blood, he refused medical help and continued to bat. This showed the courage that would define his career. He later played in many One Day Internationals, which are shorter forms of the game.

He holds the record for being the all-time highest run-scorer in international cricket. He also holds the record for the most player of the match awards. Perhaps most impressively, he is the only batsman to score 100 international centuries. A century is a score of 100 runs in a single innings. In 2002, experts ranked him as the second-greatest Test batsman of all time.
