He eventually returned to Shiraz in 1257 as a well-known poet.

Saadi lived during a time of big changes in his land. The Salghurid dynasty ruled Shiraz while he was growing up. Later, the powerful Mongol Empire began to take control of the region. Saadi wrote poems about these big events. He wrote some poems to honor rulers, but he also wrote others to give them advice. For example, he wrote poems to warn leaders about how to behave properly. He even wrote a sad poem about the fall of Baghdad in 1258.

He taught that having a skill or a trade is very important. He said a profession is like a "living fountain" of wealth. This means a skill stays with you and provides for you anywhere you go. This is different from gold or silver, which can be lost or stolen. People still gather to honor him and his beautiful words. His life and his books remind us to value wisdom and hard work.
