It grows in a place called the Fynbos. This plant has thin, needle-like leaves. People use these leaves to make a drink. It has no caffeine. This means it will not make you feel jittery.

You can drink it hot or cold with ice. Many people add milk, lemon, or honey to it.

To make the red tea, the leaves go through oxidation. This is a set of steps where the leaves change. This change makes them turn a reddish-brown color. It also makes them taste good. You can also make green rooibos. This version is made differently. It is more expensive and tastes like grass.

Growing rooibos was once very hard. The seeds were tiny and tough. A man named Pieter le Fras Nortier found a way to help them grow. He used a method called scarification. This means he rubbed the seeds between stones. This wore down the hard outer shell. Now, farmers can grow plenty of rooibos.
