Robin is a famous name used by several superheroes in DC Comics.

This character was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and Jerry Robinson. They wanted a young sidekick to help Batman. This gave Batman someone to talk to during his adventures. People often call Batman and Robin the Dynamic Duo or the Caped Crusaders. The character was meant to help young readers connect with the stories. This idea worked very well for the comic book company.

The first person to be Robin was Dick Grayson. He first appeared in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940. Dick was an eight-year-old acrobat from a circus family called the Flying Graysons. After a crime took his parents, Bruce Wayne took him in. Batman gave him a bright costume to wear. It had a red tunic and a yellow cape. He also wore green gloves and green boots. Later, Dick grew up and became a hero named Nightwing.

Other heroes have also taken on the Robin name over the years. The second Robin was Jason Todd, who first appeared in 1983. He was a boy from the streets who tried to steal tires from the Batmobile. Jason had a very sad story involving the villain Joker. After a reality-changing event, he returned as the Red Hood. The third Robin was Tim Drake, who appeared in 1989. Tim trained very hard to earn his place as Batman's partner.

There have been even more Robins in the history of the comics. Stephanie Brown became the fourth Robin for a short time in 2004. Later, Damian Wayne became the next Robin in 2009. These heroes are all part of Batman's large family of supporters. Most of them see Batman as a father figure. Some Robins have also been leaders in groups like the Teen Titans. This shows how the character connects many different heroes together.

The very idea for Robin came from old stories. Jerry Robinson was inspired by the legend of Robin Hood. He looked at art by N. C. Wyeth for ideas. This inspired the name and the medieval look of the costume.
