Bill Finger was a very important comic book writer. He helped build the world of Batman. He worked with an artist named Bob Kane. Finger was a visionary who built a whole mythos. This means he created the history and rules of a world. For many years, he was called a "ghostwriter." This was because his name was not on the books. He did the hard work, but others got the fame.

Finger had many great ideas for how Batman should look. He suggested a gray costume instead of red. He added a cape and a mask with pointed ears. He also thought of the name Bruce Wayne. He chose this name to sound like a man of high status. Finger even gave the hero a secret identity. He turned Batman into a scientific detective. This made the stories very exciting to read.

Finger's career started in the late 1930s. He was born in Denver, Colorado, in 1914. His family moved to the Bronx in New York City. He graduated from high school in 1933. In 1938, he joined Bob Kane's studio. They worked on the first Batman stories in 1939. Finger wrote the script for the very first appearance. This was in Detective Comics #27.

He created many famous characters and places. He gave us the name Gotham City. He also helped create the Joker and Catwoman. Finger wrote about Robin, too. He decided Robin's parents were circus performers. He even helped create the hero Green Lantern. He wrote about Superman's weakness called Kryptonite. He also created the character Lana Lang.

Finger's life was not always easy. He died without much money or fame. This happened because he was not credited for his work. Later, researchers like Marc Tyler Nobleman found the truth. A fan community also helped fight for him. In 2015, DC Comics finally changed their credits. They now call him a co-creator of Batman. This finally restored his lost legacy.
