Before movies, he sold women's clothing with his brother, Charles. As a teenager, he had a deep voice and many accents. He performed in more than 300 radio shows before he was 18. In 1956, actress Norma Shearer spotted him at a hotel. She thought he could play a specific role in a movie. This led to a short career as an actor. Later, he decided to use his money to become a producer.

Evans's life included both great success and very difficult times. In 1980, he faced legal trouble regarding cocaine trafficking. This event changed his career and his reputation. He also dealt with a very serious health crisis in 1998. During a dinner, he suffered a major stroke. This left him paralyzed on one side and unable to speak. It was a hard job to recover from such a big event. However, he worked hard and eventually learned to talk again.

There are many specific dates and names from his long life. He was born Robert J. Shapera in New York City on June 29, 1930. In 1967, he became the head of Paramount Pictures. He produced many hits, including Love Story in 1970 and Rosemary's Baby in 1968. He stepped down from his big studio job in 1974. His final film credit was the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days in 2003. He lived to be 89 years old when he died in 2019.

His life was so famous that it appeared in other stories. Some filmmakers used him as a model for characters in their own movies. For example, Orson Welles made a character based on him in The Other Side of the Wind. Another filmmaker created a character for the movie S.O.B. based on Evans too. His family also stayed involved in the arts. His son, Josh Evans, became a film producer himself. His brother Charles also worked in the movie business. Evans's life remains a big part of Hollywood history.
