Many people believe he was the greatest combat photographer in history. He used his camera to show the world what life was like during big conflicts. His photos helped people see real events happening far away. Capa was known for being brave and taking risks to get his shots. He wanted to capture history as it moved through the world. His work remains a very important part of our shared history today.

Capa's journey as a photographer involved many different steps and places. He started by working as a darkroom assistant in Berlin to earn money. Later, he moved to Paris and worked with a partner named Gerda Taro. They sometimes used the name "Capa" together for their work. He traveled to many countries to find stories worth telling. He would arrive in a place, witness events, and then develop his film. This way of working allowed him to document many different wars.

His life began in Budapest, Austria-Hungary, on October 22, 1913.

He was born into a Jewish family named Friedmann. When he was 18, he had to leave Hungary because of political trouble. He moved to Berlin and then to Paris to find safety. In Paris, he met Gerda Taro, a fellow photographer. They worked closely together until she died in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. These early years shaped the person he would become.
