Bosch became famous for making a tool called a magneto. A magneto is a device that creates an electric spark. This spark ignites a mixture of air and fuel inside an engine. This process helps the engine run at the right time. In 1887, Gottlieb Daimler asked Bosch to build one. Bosch made four devices to show how they worked. Later, other men helped make the device even better. They made it work faster for different engine speeds.

Bosch traveled to many places to learn and work. He sailed to the United States in 1884. In New York, he worked as an engineer for Thomas Edison. He also worked for Sigmund Bergmann. In 1885, he went to London to work for Siemens Brothers. He returned to Stuttgart to open his own business. By 1913, his company was very large. It had branches in America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Most of his sales came from outside of Germany.

His company grew into a huge electronics group. In 1927, Bosch launched diesel fuel injection for motors. He also cared about his workers' lives. He was one of the first bosses to start an eight-hour workday. He gave many social benefits to his employees. Bosch also gave a lot of money to charity. He helped start the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart in 1940. He wanted his company's earnings to help people through his will.

We can see his influence in many things today. Many cars and machines use parts that his company makes. His company changed from a small shop into a global group. Even his rules for the company are still used today. He was even put into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1984. His life shows how one person's ideas can change the world. We use many of his inventions every single day.
