Rhythm

arts Maturity 7-9 Vital Level 3 Next article →

Rhythm is a pattern of movement in time. It can be a sound or a silence. It can also be a step in a dance. Rhythm often uses strong and weak parts. This mix creates a steady flow.

In music, we feel a beat. A beat is a steady pulse. You might tap your foot to it. Some people call this the tempo. Tempo is how fast or slow the beat goes.

People use rhythm to feel part of a group. In the past, rhythm might have helped early humans work together. Today, people use it in many ways. They use it in hip hop music or in war cries. It can even help soldiers or dancers stay in sync.

Rhythm is not just for sound. Architects use rhythm in buildings. They do this by spacing windows or columns in a pattern. Even nature has rhythm. Some patterns happen over seconds or even many years.
