It was written around 375 BC. This book is a dialogue. A dialogue is a talk between people. In this book, Socrates talks with others in Athens. They discuss what it means to be just. Being just means being fair to others.

Socrates asks if a fair person is happier than an unfair person. He also talks about a perfect city. He calls this city Kallipolis. In this city, wise leaders called philosopher-kings rule. These leaders must be very well trained. Socrates says they should not own private wealth. This helps them focus on the good of the city. He also talks about the soul. The soul is the part of a person that thinks and feels. Socrates says the soul has three parts. These parts must work together in balance. One part thinks, one part feels brave, and one part has desires. When these parts work well, a person is just. This book is still very important today. It helps us think about how to live well.
