Replication crisis

life science Maturity 13-18 Next article →

Scientists use tests to learn about our world. They want to find the truth. To do this, they often use a step called replication. This means repeating a study with new data. They want to see if they get the same answer.

Sometimes, these new tests do not work. The results are different from the first study. This is a big problem. People call it the replication crisis. It started to become a known problem in the early 2010s.

Many fields face this issue. In psychology, some famous studies could not be repeated. In medicine, some cancer research had low rates of success. Some studies only worked 11% to 20% of the time.

This does not mean science is bad. It is a way for science to fix itself. Scientists are now studying how to do research better. This new field is called metascience. It is the study of how research is done. This helps make scientific knowledge strong and true.
