Writing these stories involved a lot of teamwork and skill. For many years, Goscinny worked closely with other talented artists. He collaborated with Morris on Lucky Luke for over twenty years. This long period is often called the golden age of that series. He also worked with Jean Tabary to write the series Iznogoud. Later, he wrote Le Petit Nicolas with illustrations by Jean-Jacques Sempé. Goscinny was a very busy writer who worked on many different projects at once. He helped start a group called Edipress to publish many new works.

Goscinny had a very interesting life that took him to many countries. He was born in Paris in 1926 to a Jewish family. His parents had moved to France from Poland. When he was only two years old, his family moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina. He grew up there and went to French schools. As a child, he was often the class clown. He loved reading illustrated stories and started drawing very early. Later, he lived in New York in the United States for a short time. He even served in the French Army in 1946.

His career was full of big successes and many famous names. In 1959, he helped launch the comics magazine called Pilote. This was the same magazine that first published the Asterix series. Goscinny became the editor-in-chief of Pilote in 1960. He was an incredibly productive writer for many different magazines. His work was so popular that it was translated into 2,200 different languages. In 2005, he was even put into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in the U.S. A bronze statue of him was also placed in Paris in 2020.

Even after he passed away, his influence stayed very strong. Goscinny died in Paris in 1977 at the age of 51. He died during a medical test at his doctor's office. His friend Albert Uderzo made a special tribute in a comic book. Uderzo drew grey skies and rain to mark the moment Goscinny died. He also drew a small rabbit looking sadly at Goscinny's signature. Other artists continued to write his famous series like Lucky Luke and Iznogoud. Today, a special award called the René Goscinny Award helps young writers find success.
