You can remix a song, a book, or even a photo. To remix, you add, remove, or change parts of the original work. This makes the item look or sound different.

Music remixes are very popular. People remix songs to make them sound better for the radio. They might change a song to fit a club. Some remixers use old songs to reach new fans. They might even add new sounds to help an old song sound fresh.

Remixing has a long history. It started with dance music in Jamaica. Makers there would rebuild tracks for their fans. Later, DJs in disco clubs used new tricks to keep people dancing. One man, Tom Moulton, even invented the dance remix. He also helped create the 12-inch single vinyl record.

There are many ways to remix today. A mashup is a remix that joins two or more songs. Some fans make these on their own. Some artists even let fans remix their music. Madonna is known as the most remixed artist in the world.
