Filmi is the music made for movies in India. It is a huge part of life there. In fact, it makes up 72% of all music sales in India! People love these songs in India, Nepal, and Pakistan. Many people living far away also listen to it.

In these movies, singers do something special. They are called playback singers. They record the songs in a studio first. Then, the actors move their lips to the words on screen. This is called lip-syncing. These singers are famous for their great voices. Their success often comes from working on big hit films.

Filmi music has many different sounds. Early music used Indian classical styles. Later, it added sounds from the West. Now, it blends many styles together. Music directors, or composers, make the tunes. One very famous composer is A. R. Rahman. He has won many big awards, like Academy Awards. His music is known all over the world. Some songs even appear in movies made in America! Filmi music is a bright and busy world of sound.
