Many animals use this to feed their young. It is hard to carry big prey to a nest. Other predators might steal the food if a parent carries it. Some birds use a special way to feed babies. Gulls have a red or orange spot on their bills. The chicks peck this spot to ask for food.

A flesh fly uses a different way. It blows a bubble to let water evaporate. This makes the meal much stronger. Honey bees also use this way to make honey. Some animals do this to help digestion. Ruminants bring up food called cud. They chew it again to make it easier to digest. This happens as a normal part of their lives.
