This fish has a body that looks like a snake. It has many extra bones in its body. These bones help it grow very long. It can grow to be 1 meter long. Reedfish live in warm, slow water. They like to hide in thick plants.

Reedfish have a special way to breathe. They have gills to breathe in water. They also have a pair of lungs. Lungs let them breathe air from the surface. This helps them live in water with very little oxygen. It also lets them spend time out of the water. They can slither on land like a snake to find food!

Most reedfish come out at night to eat. They eat small worms, shrimp, and insects. They also eat small fish. Females lay eggs near the male. The male then hides the eggs in plants. The tiny babies hatch in about 70 hours.

These fish are in trouble because of habitat loss. People are making farms and cities in their homes. This makes the reedfish Near Threatened.
