Real estate has a long history. People have studied land rights since ancient times. In 1803, the U.S. bought a large area from France. This was called the Louisiana Purchase. It cost fifteen million dollars. In the 1930s, the U.S. made new laws to help people buy homes. One law helped people get insurance for their homes. In 1968, a law called the Fair Housing Act was passed. This law helped make sure people were treated fairly when buying homes. There are many types of homes. Some people live in a single house. Others live in apartments or townhouses. You can even live in a house on a boat! Today, people use the internet to find real estate. It is a big part of how we live and work.
