Because of its location, Rasht has a very special environment.

The weather in Rasht is very different from the rest of Iran. Most of the country is dry and arid. However, Rasht is a humid subtropical place with lots of rain. People often call it the "City of Silver Rain." The air feels wet and warm most of the time. To the south, there is even a temperate rainforest. This makes the area look much greener than other parts of the country.

Rasht has a very long history that goes back to the 13th century. It was once a major center for the silk trade. Many workshops were built there to make silk thread. Because it sat between the mountains and the coast, it became a huge trade center. It connected Iran to Russia and Europe. This is why people called it the "Gate of Europe." In the past, many different governments had offices right there in the city.

Many important "firsts" happened in Rasht. It was the place where the first girls' school in Iran was built. The city also had the first national library and the first national hospital.

Even the first bus to arrive in Iran came to Rasht. It was brought there by a merchant from Belgium. The city even had the first 24/7 pharmacy and the first sewage system. These things show how much the city helped lead the way for others.

Today, people visit Rasht for many different reasons. Some travelers come to see the beaches of the Caspian Sea. Others go to the mountains to visit the resort of Masouleh. The city is also famous for its food. In 2015, UNESCO named it a creative gastronomy city. This means it is a special place for food lovers. You can see many modern buildings and malls there now.
