He had many unique ideas that often surprised people. He did not like traditional religious rules or systems. He believed that people should enjoy life fully rather than living very simply. He also spoke about science and modern technology. He thought these things were important for India to grow. His views were often controversial and made him a famous figure.

He taught a special way to practice meditation.

This was called dynamic meditation. It involved breathing very fast and using music and dance. He wanted people to experience spirituality through active movement. In 1970, he began teaching a group called neo-sannyasins in Mumbai. These followers often wore saffron clothes. They followed a lifestyle that was celebratory rather than strict. Rajneesh saw himself as a guide to help others open up.

In 1974, his movement moved to Pune, India. Later, in 1981, the group moved to the United States.

They built a large community in Oregon called Rajneeshpuram. This time was very difficult for the group. They faced many legal battles with the local government. Some of his close helpers, like Ma Anand Sheela, were accused of serious crimes. These included a food-poisoning attack and other illegal acts. Because of these problems, Rajneesh was deported from the U.S. in 1985.

After leaving America, Rajneesh returned to India. He lived in Mumbai and then went back to Pune in 1987.
