He is most famous for his Goosebumps series. This series of horror fiction for children is a huge success. It has sold over 400 million copies in 35 different languages. This makes it the second-best-selling book series in history. Because of his talent for scary tales, people call him the "Stephen King of children's literature." He has also written the Fear Street series, which sold over 80 million copies.

Stine has a very interesting way of creating his books. He does not type with all of his fingers like most people. Instead, he types every single book using only his left index finger. This habit has caused his finger to become curved over many years. He jokingly called his finger "hideous and totally bent" in 2008. He refuses to learn how to type the proper way. He believes that learning new ways to type would slow him down.

His journey as a writer started when he was just nine years old.

He found an old typewriter in his attic and began to type. He wrote stories and even joke books at that young age. He was inspired by reading Tales from the Crypt comic books. Later, he graduated from Ohio State University in 1965 with an English degree. While he was at college, he spent three years editing a humor magazine called The Sundial.

Stine has worked on many different types of stories throughout his long career. He wrote funny books for children using the name Jovial Bob Stine. He also created a magazine for teenagers called Bananas, which ran for 72 issues. In 1986, he wrote his very first horror novel titled Blind Date. Since then, he has launched many famous series like Mostly Ghostly and Rotten School. He even wrote books for adults, such as Superstitious and The Sitter. His work is so popular that it has inspired 4D movie attractions at SeaWorld.

Many people recognize his work through movies and television shows.

The Goosebumps series led to two TV shows and several video games. In the 2015 film Goosebumps, the actor Jack Black plays a version of Stine. Stine actually appeared in that movie too, playing a teacher named Mr. Black. He also appeared in the sequel, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, as Principal Harrison. His stories have even reached the world of cartoons. He voiced a character named Bob Baxter on an episode of the show Arthur.
