There is another word, tetrapod. This word means an animal comes from a four-limbed ancestor. Most tetrapods are quadrupeds. But some are not. Humans are tetrapods. We have four limbs. Yet we mostly walk on two legs. Whales are tetrapods too. They use fins instead of legs. Even snakes are tetrapods. They just lost their legs long ago.

This is different from being a tetrapod. A tetrapod is an animal that comes from a four-limbed ancestor. Some tetrapods do not walk on four legs. Humans use their limbs as arms and hands. Whales use them as fins. Even snakes are tetrapods even though they have no legs.
