It comes from ancient Chinese culture. It has been around for over 2,000 years. People use it for health, martial arts, or to find peace.

The name comes from two Chinese words. The first word is qi. It means vital energy that flows through the body. The second word is gong. This means work or skill. Together, they mean working to balance your life energy.

There are two main ways to practice. One way is called dong gong. This means active qigong with slow, flowing moves. You might mimic animals, like a white crane or a wild goose.

The other way is jing gong. This is passive qigong. It uses still poses and deep breathing.

Practitioners focus on many things. They use rhythmic breathing and a calm mind. They might also use visualization to see qi moving. Some people use chanting or special sounds to help them focus. Whether moving or still, the goal is to find balance and health.
