Some people call them Indian pariah dogs. The word pariah comes from a Tamil word. It means "outcast." These dogs live near human homes. They are not pets that stay inside. They are also not wild like dingoes. They live as scavengers. This means they find food in human waste.

These dogs have a very long history. Experts found dog bones in India from 4,500 years ago. Modern INDogs are direct descendants of those ancient dogs. They are small to medium in size. Most have short hair. They are often light brown or white.

INDogs are very hardy. This means they stay healthy with little help. They do not have many genetic diseases. This happens because they do not inbreed. They have also gone through convergent evolution. This is a way that different animals develop similar traits. Because they live in similar places, they look very much alike. They are a vital part of life in India.
