He made this music with his band, the Revolution. The album was a soundtrack for a movie with the same name. The music has many layers of sound. It uses guitars, keyboards, and drum machines. Some parts use electronic effects to sound very grand.

Prince wrote most of the songs himself. He even played all the instruments on the song "When Doves Cry." That song had no bass line. He chose to leave it out to make it sound unique. Some songs were recorded live in front of a crowd.

The album was a massive success. It stayed at the top of the music charts for 24 weeks. Millions of people bought it all over the world. It won several awards, including a Grammy.

Some people had concerns about the lyrics in certain songs. This led to new stickers on album covers to warn parents. Even so, the album is still seen as one of the best ever made. It is even kept in a special national registry.
